Fillings

Fillings

Dental fillings are materials used to fill cavities caused by tooth decay or damage. When a tooth is affected by decay, it creates a hole (cavity) that needs to be cleaned and filled to prevent further damage and restore the tooth’s normal function. Fillings not only repair the tooth but also prevent bacteria from entering and causing additional decay.

Types of Fillings We Offer

At Shashikal Clinic, we provide a range of filling materials to meet your individual needs:

  • Composite Fillings: These are made of a tooth-colored resin that blends in with your natural teeth, making them an ideal choice for visible teeth. Composite fillings are durable and provide a strong bond to the tooth structure.

  • Amalgam Fillings: Known for their strength and durability, amalgam fillings are made from a combination of metals, including silver, mercury, tin, and copper. They are often used for filling cavities in the back teeth, where chewing pressure is greatest.

  • Ceramic Fillings: Made from porcelain, ceramic fillings are tooth-colored and resistant to staining. They are often used in cases where aesthetics are a priority.

  • Gold Fillings: While not as common, gold fillings are highly durable and can last for many years. They are often chosen for their strength and longevity.

The Filling Procedure

Getting a filling is a straightforward and virtually painless procedure. Here’s what to expect:

  • Numbing the Area: Before starting, your dentist will numb the area around the affected tooth to ensure you feel no discomfort during the procedure.

  • Removing Decay: The decayed portion of the tooth is carefully removed using specialized dental instruments. The area is then cleaned to eliminate any bacteria or debris.

  • Placing the Filling: Once the cavity is prepared, the filling material is placed into the cleaned-out space. The material is then shaped to match the natural contours of your tooth.

  • Final Adjustments: After the filling is placed, your dentist will polish it to smooth out any rough edges and ensure your bite feels comfortable.
